Broadleaved evergreen forest. From 800 - 1,250 m.

Range (Guide)

Cambodia (B) (NB).

South-western Cambodia.

Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is 10,000 (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through logging and conversion of forest to agriculture, particularly coffee, is the main threat.

Habits
Forages in small groups, often in mixed species aggregations.

Voice
Rapid maniacal laughter, introduced by a few dry 'chuck' notes.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Garrulax strepitans (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into White-necked Laughingthrush (Garrulax strepitans) and Cambodian Laughingthrush (Garrulax ferrarius) following Collar (2006).

Formerly treated as conspecific with White-necked Laughingthrush (Garrulax strepitans), but more closely related to Black-hooded Laughingthrush (Garrulax milleti).

Similar Species
Black-hooded Laughingthrush (Garrulax milleti) which differs from Cambodian Laughingthrush (Garrulax ferrarius) in colouring. Cambodian Laughingthrush (Garrulax ferrarius) has a browner hood and darker mantle. White patches on the neck of Black-hooded Laughingthrush (Garrulax milleti) extend in a band from the upper mantle to lower breast.
