No subspecies.

Garrulax albogularis (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into White-throated Laughingthrush (Garrulax albogularis) and Rufous-crowned Laughingthrush (Garrulax ruficeps) following Collar (2006).

Closely related to and often treated as conspecific with White-throated Laughingthrush (Garrulax albogularis).
