Subspecies
No subspecies.
Acrocephalus agricola (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Paddyfield Warbler (Acrocephalus agricola) and White-browed Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus tangorum) contra Alstrom et al. (1991) but following Helbig and Seibold (1999).
Forms a superspecies with Paddyfield Warbler (Acrocephalus agricola) and Blunt-winged Warbler (Acrocephalus concinens). Formerly considered a subspecies of Paddyfield Warbler (Acrocephalus agricola) or of Black-browed Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus bistrigiceps), but recent morphological and DNA studies indicate that it warrants separate species rank.
Similar Species
Paddyfield Warbler (Acrocephalus agricola) which has less tawny-rufous upperparts and less clearly defined black eyebrow, Black-browed Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus bistrigiceps) which has more extensive dark crown and more obvious contrast between the black brow and pale centre of crown. Generally duller and more olive-brown upperparts.
