Forms a superspecies with others of genus apart from Brown-chested Martin (Progne tapera). This species and Peruvian Martin (Progne murphyi) and Southern Martin (Progne elegans) often treated as conspecific. Species initially named Hirundo concolor, but this name is invalid, as preoccupied.
