Habitat
Dense, mossy cloud forest, especially favouring the understorey of stunted elfin forest on exposed ridges. From 1,350 - 2,600 m.
Ecuador (B), Peru (B).

Recorded southern Ecuador (Cordillera del Cóndor) and northern Peru (Cajamarca, San Martín and La Libertad). Imperfectly known.

Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat destruction through grazing and burning is a potential threat.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Possibly more closely related to Grey-breasted Wood-Wren (Henicorhina leucophrys) and somewhat intermediate between that species and White-breasted Wood-Wren (Henicorhina leucosticta).
