Abundance (Guide)

Rare vagrant. Christmas Island, June 2004.

Habitat
Coastal areas, forest edges and clearings, regrowth and gardens. Usually in small flocks, but occasionally in groups of several hundred.

Range (Guide)
Cambodia, China (mainland), Hong Kong (China), India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia (B), Myanmar, North Korea (B), Pakistan, Russia (Asian), Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan (China), Thailand, Vietnam.

Vagrant to Christmas Island, Norway.

Breeds eastern Mongolia, south-eastern Russia (south-eastern Transbaikalia east to Ussuriland), north-eastern and central China (north-eastern Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang south to southern Gansu and Shandong) and northern Korea. Non-breeding south-eastern Asia and Greater Sundas.

Breeding Season (Guide)
Does not breed in Australia. Breeds south-eastern Siberia, Ussuriland, Sakhalin, Mongolia, northern and north-eastern China, North Korea. Winters in Sumatra, Java.

No subspecies.

May form a superspecies with Chestnut-cheeked Starling (Agropsar philippensis).
