Subspecies
Genus name sometimes given as Aplornis. Was previously thought to form a superspecies with Metallic Starling (Aplonis metallica).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- brevicauda (van Oort, 1908) - Numfor I, in north-western Geelvink Bay (north-western New Guinea).
- magna (Sclegel, 1871) - Biak I, in northern Geelvink Bay.
