Habitat
Forests, coasts, mangroves, offshore islands. Some towns.

Range (Guide)
Australia, Indonesia (B), Papua New Guinea (B), Solomon Islands (B).

West Papuan Is, New Guinea and some satellite islands, Aru Is, Bismarck Archipelago and Solomon Is.

Habits
In pairs or small flocks.

Food
Mostly fruit and some insects.

Voice
A pleasant, drawn out, downwards whistle, similar to that of a Bronze-Cuckoo, repeated irregularly. A short, musical, bell-like, double-note, 'tsu-wei'. A 'tsieeeuw'.

Does not breed in Australia. There an unconfirmed, but unsubstantiated, report of breeding on Boigu Island.

Nest
In a hollow of a tree, hole in a cliff or building or among clustered nests of a colony of Metallic Starling (Aplonis metallica). Usually in colonies.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Genus name sometimes given as Aplornis. May form a superspecies with Tanimbar Starling (Aplonis crassa).

Similar Species
Metallic Starling (Aplonis metallica) which has a long tapering tail.
