Habitat
Undergrowth and edge of mid- and high-altitude primary and secondary moist forest. From sea-level - 1,000 m.

Dominica (B) (NB), Guadeloupe (B) (NB), Montserrat (B) (NB), St Lucia (B) (NB).

Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Habitat loss through volcanic activity, brood-parasitism by Shiny Cowbird (Molothrus bonariensis), competition with Spectacled Thrush (Turdus nudigenis) (which are increasing on Guadeloupe), predation by mongooses and other introduced mammals, legally and illegal hunting, are the main threats.

Subspecies
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

  • lawrencii Cory, 1891   -  Montserrat.
  • lherminieri (Lafresnaye, 1844)   -  Guadeloupe.
  • dominicensis (Lawrence, 1880)   -  Dominica.
  • sanctaeluciae (Sclater, PL, 1880)   -  St Lucia.
  • dorotheae (Wolters, 1980)   -  Montserrat (Lesser Antilles).


Similar Species
On St Lucia, distinguished from Spectacled Thrush (Turdus nudigenis) by scaled underparts. Pearly-eyed Thrasher (Margarops fuscatus) which is greyer and has white spots in tail.
