Subspecies
Possibly interbred with Ogea Monarch (Mayrornis versicolor) in the past.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- lessoni (Gray, 1846) - Fiji (except Lau Archipelago and large islands of Gau, Koro, Matuku, Totya, Kabara and Vulaga).
- orientalis Mayr, 1933 - Moala Group and Lau Archipelago.
