Status NT
Predation by Swamp Harrier (Circus approximans), Barn Owl (Tyto alba) and freal cats are the main threats.

Subspecies
No subspecies.
Possibly interbred with Slaty Monarch (Mayrornis lessoni) in the past.
Similar Species
Sympatric with Slaty Monarch (Mayrornis lessoni) which has slaty-grey upperparts, pale grey underparts and white-tipped black tail.
