Subspecies
Has been placed in genus Trochocercus . Forms a superspecies with White-bellied Crested-flycatcher (Elminia albiventris ) and White-tailed Crested-flycatcher (Elminia albonotata ) and has been considered conspecific with White-bellied Crested-flycatcher (Elminia albiventris ).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
colstoni (Dickerman, 1994) - Discontinuously south-eastern Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia (Mt Nimba), southern Ivory Coast, western and southern Ghana and southern Nigeria.
nigromitrata (Reichenow, 1874) - Cameroon and Gabon, northern PRCongo east to south-western and south-eastern Central African Republic, DRCongo, western and southern Uganda, south-western Kenya (Kakamega Forest) and extreme north-western Tanzania (Bukoba).
