Subspecies
Has been placed in genus Trochocercus. Forms a superspecies with Dusky Crested-flycatcher (Elminia nigromitrata) and White-tailed Crested-flycatcher (Elminia albonotata) and has been considered conspecific with Dusky Crested-flycatcher (Elminia nigromitrata).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- albiventris Sjöstedt, 1893 - South-eastern Nigeria, western Cameroon and Bioko I (Fernando Póo).
- toroensis (Jackson, 1906) - North-eastern DRCongo, western Uganda and western Rwanda.
