Malaysia (B).

Montane forests of north-western Borneo.

Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat clearance through logging and agricultural development is the main threat.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Closely related to Javan Oriole (Oriolus cruentus), Maroon Oriole (Oriolus traillii) and Silver Oriole (Oriolus mellianus) and all of these, together with Black-hooded Oriole (Oriolus xanthornus), form the "Asian black-headed group". Species name sometimes misspelled "hosei".
