Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest, and lowland moist shrubland. Also, subtropical and tropical dry forest, shrubland and pastureland. From 200 - 3,550 m.

Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Status EW
Extensive habitat alteration, in particular the destruction of understorey foodplants, from logging, feral cattle, sheep and goats, and loss of pollinators and dispersers. There are no birds in the wild (last seen 2002) and the captive population is inbred which may be reducing reproductive success.

Food
Omnivorous, but primarily feeds on fruits of native understorey plants. Also eggs, young birds, insects and carrion.

Voice
A variety of squawks, screams, growls, and dissonant croaks.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

In earlier literature often referred to erroneously as Corvus tropicus. Preliminary genetic analysis suggests that this species may be more closely related to Common Raven (Corvus corax) than to other crows, a conclusion supported by morphological features (including large size, especially of bill) and vocalizations.
