Eastern and south-eastern coastal reaches of USA from coastal Maine southern throughout Florida, western across Louisiana border into eastern Texas, in western extending northern along major rivers into Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.

Preliminary genetic analysis suggests that this species may be part of a clade of Asian/Pacific taxa that includes also Tamaulipas Crow (Corvus imparatus) and Sinaloa Crow (Corvus sinaloae).
