Coastal and subcoastal south-western Australia, roughly south of a line from N Gairdner Range to Hopetoun and east to Cape Arid National Park.
 
South-western Australia from about Israelite Bay to Geraldton.

Varied notes, ranging from harsh to musical. An undulating 'cook-cook-cup-cook, cook-cook-cup-hook'. Also a grating 'graarrrk'.

Nest
Cup-shaped, composed of small twigs, lined with grasses and soft bark, sometimes also plant down, in the fork of a low tree or bush.

Eggs (Guide)
1; salmon-buff, sparingly spotted with chestnut-red and underlying purple-grey; long-oval; about 29 x 21 mm.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Anthochaera chrysoptera (Christidis and Boles 1994) has been split into Little Wattlebird (Anthochaera chrysoptera) and Western Wattlebird (Anthochaera lunulata) following Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993) and Christidis and Boles (2008).

Often considered conspecific with Little Wattlebird (Anthochaera chrysoptera).

Similar Species
Red Wattlebird (Anthochaera carunculata) which is larger, lighter and has yellow on the belly.
