Subspecies
No subspecies.

Phacellodomus erythrophthalmus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Orange-eyed Thornbird (Phacellodomus erythrophthalmus) and Orange-breasted Thornbird (Phacellodomus ferrugineigula) following Stotz et al. (1996) and SACC (2009).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Orange-eyed Thornbird (Phacellodomus erythrophthalmus).
