Subspecies
No subspecies.
Often placed with Ochre-cheeked Spinetail (Synallaxis scutata) and White-whiskered Spinetail (Synallaxis candei) in a separate genus Poecilurus, but no diagnosable differences from current genus. Forms a superspecies with second of those species, possibly also including the first, but that differs substantially in colour pattern and tail structure.
