Habitat
Thick undergrowth, such as caatinga tangles and bamboo thickets, within forest and edges. From sea-level - 950 m.
Brazil (B).
South-eastern Brazil (south-eastern Bahia, eastern Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo).

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat destruction, degradation and fragmentation is the main threat.

Subspecies
Relationships uncertain. Sometimes considered close to Grey Antbird (Cercomacra cinerascens ) on basis of plumage, but vocalizations suggest a relationship with the "Jet Antbird (Cercomacra nigricans ) group".
