South-eastern Brazil from central and south-eastern Bahia, eastern Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo south to eastern Sío Paulo, eastern Paraná and eastern Santa Catarina.

Subspecies
Members of genus form a well-defined clade, and appear to be closely related to Hypocnemis. Most closely related to Rufous-tailed Antbird (Drymophila genei).
