Habitat
Forest canopy in lowland Atlantic forest. Also forest edge, palms and dead trees adjacent to forest. From sea-level - 300 m.

Range (Guide)
Argentina (B), Brazil (B), Paraguay (B).

Extreme eastern Paraguay, south-eastern Brazil (southern Minas Gerais and Espí­rito Santo south to Santa Catarina) and north-eastern Argentina (Misiones).
 
Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through urbanisation, industrialisation, agricultural expansion, colonisation and associated road-building, are the main threats.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Was for long treated in a monotypic genus, Leptotriccus, but seems typical member of present genus. May belong with the superspecies formed by Rufous-lored Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes flaviventris) and Cinnamon-faced Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes parkeri), possibly also including Black-fronted Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes nigrifrons), Rufous-browed Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes superciliaris) and Minas Gerais Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes roquettei).
