Habitat
Dry forest, riparian forest and semi-deciduous forest within the cerrado, including in secondary growth and forest fragments. From 400 - 900 m.

Brazil (B).

Northern Minas Gerais, in eastern Brazil.

Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation through conversion to agriculture, mining and harvesting of wood, is the main threat.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Affinities uncertain. Possibly related distantly to the superspecies formed by Rufous-lored Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes flaviventris) and Cinnamon-faced Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes parkeri), perhaps also including Black-fronted Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes nigrifrons), Rufous-browed Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes superciliaris) and Bay-ringed Tyrannulet (Phylloscartes sylviolus).

Similar Species
A fast twittery 'pr'r'r'r' it tit-tit-tit' song and a sharp 'peep' call.
