Subspecies
No subspecies.

Formerly placed in a monotypic genus, Ceratotriccus, on basis of distinctive elongated and forked tail. Possibly a member of the superspecies formed by Buff-breasted Tody-tyrant (Hemitriccus mirandae), Cinnamon-breasted Tody-tyrant (Hemitriccus cinnamomeipectus) and Kaempfer's Tody-tyrant (Hemitriccus kaempferi), possibly also including Black-throated Tody-tyrant (Hemitriccus granadensis).
