Peninsular Thailand in Krabi Province (Khao Nor Chuchi), and possibly extreme southern Myanmar (southern Tenasserim).

Status EN
Clearance of lowland forest through clear-felling for timber, unofficial logging and conversion to croplands, fruit orchards, coffee, rubber and oil-palm plantations, snare-line trapping for the cage-bird trade are the main threats.

Subspecies
On basis mainly of longer, graduated tail, sometimes placed in separate genus Eucichla, along with Javan Banded Pitta (Hydrornis guajanus) and Bar-bellied Pitta (Hydrornis elliotii), and on occasion Blue Pitta (Hydrornis cyaneus).
