Subspecies
Scolopax saturata (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Javan Woodcock (Scolopax saturata) and New Guinea Woodcock (Scolopax rosenbergii) following Kennedy et al. (2001).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
saturata Horsfield, 1821 - Mountains of northern and south-central Sumatra and western Java.
rosenbergii Schlegel, 1871 - Mountains of New Guinea.
