Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest from 500 to at least 1,950 m. Foraging birds can be found at any altitude down to sea level.

Subspecies
Relationships of genus uncertain. Somewhat similar to some Ducula in colour and colour-patterns. Forms a superspecies with Papuan Mountain-pigeon (Gymnophaps albertisii) and Buru Mountain-pigeon (Gymnophaps mada).
