Subspecies
Relationships of genus uncertain. Somewhat similar to some Ducula in colour and colour-patterns. Forms a superspecies with Papuan Mountain-pigeon (Gymnophaps albertisii) and Pale Mountain-pigeon (Gymnophaps solomonensis).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- mada (Hartert, 1899) - Buru.
- stalkeri (Ogilvie-Grant, 1911) - Seram. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Seram Mountain-pigeon (Gymnophaps stalkeri).
