(Salvin, 1895)

Habitat
Riparian woodland, dominated by the willow Salix humbertiana, and adjacent dry forest on steep valley slopes. From 850 - 2,400 m. Also degraded, humid premontane forest and around mango orchards.

Range (Guide)

Ecuador (B), Peru (B).

Andes of extreme south-eastern Ecuador, and also of northern Peru from valley of upper R Marañón south to La Libertad.

Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Habitat destruction and degradation, hunting are the main threats.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Red-billed Pigeon (Patagioenas flavirostris) and Plain Pigeon (Patagioenas inornata).

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Pale-vented Pigeon (Patagioenas cayennensis) which is drabber, with less rufous on wing and grey tail.
