Canary Is, occurring on La Palma, Gomera, Tenerife and El Hierro; formerly also on Gran Canaria, where now extinct.

Intensive exploitation of laurel forests, resulting in habitat loss and fragmentation, illegal hunting at drinking sites, predation by introduced mammals including rats, grazing pressure from sheep, and recreational activities during the breeding season are the main threats.
