Status LC
Forest destruction for wood, agriculture, grazing and human settlements, hunting and poisoning, nest predation by Black Rat Rattus rattus are the main threats.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Dark-tailed Laurel-pigeon (Columba bollii) with which it is sometimes considered conspecific. Also related to Common Woodpigeon (Columba palumbus), Afep Pigeon (Columba unicincta) and probably White-tailed Laurel-pigeon (Columba junoniae).

No subspecies.
