Subspecies
Genus often merged into Collocalia. Forms superspecies with Philippine Swiftlet (Aerodramus mearnsi), Mountain Swiftlet (Aerodramus hirundinaceus), White-rumped Swiftlet (Aerodramus spodiopygius) and Australian Swiftlet (Aerodramus terraereginae). Previously placed in composite species Mascarene Swiftlet (Aerodramus francicus) or alternatively in Uniform Swiftlet (Aerodramus vanikorensis) and considered conspecific with White-rumped Swiftlet (Aerodramus spodiopygius) by some authors.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

sororum (Stresemann, 1931) - Sulawesi.
infuscatus (Salvadori, 1880) - Northern Moluccas (Ternate, Halmahera and Morotai, and possibly Bacan and Obi), and recently recorded on Sangihe and Siau.
ceramensis (van Oort, 1911) - Southern Moluccas (Buru, Boano, Ambon and Seram).
