Status VU
Habitat destruction through conversion to plantations and pastureland, trapping for the cage-bird trade are the main threats.

Food
Fruit, seeds, berries and buds procured in treetops. Has also been recorded feeding in papaya, jackfruit, mangoes, cocoa, banana and coffee plantations.
Voice
Low-pitched and nasal 'crawa' notes and other squeaks.

Subspecies
Possibly forms a superspecies with Blue-cheeked Amazon (Amazona dufresniana) and Red-tailed Amazon (Amazona brasiliensis) and has been treated as conspecific with Blue-cheeked Amazon (Amazona dufresniana), or even both.
