Humid forest and cloud-forest in the lower subtropical zone, woodlands in forest-savanna mosaic. From sea-level - 1,700 m.

Range (Guide)

French Guiana (B), Guyana (B), Suriname (B), Venezuela (B).

Unknown to Brazil.

South-eastern Venezuela, the Guianas and possibly adjacent Brazil.

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction and trapping for the cage-bird trade are the main threats.

Subspecies
Possibly forms a superspecies with Red-browed Amazon (Amazona rhodocorytha) and Red-tailed Amazon (Amazona brasiliensis) and has been treated as conspecific with Red-browed Amazon (Amazona rhodocorytha), or even both.
