Habitat
Subtropical and tropical dry forest. From sea-level - 1,800 m.
Aruba, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Netherlands Antilles, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela.
Introduced to Barbados (B), Jamaica.
Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Forpus crassirostris (see Blue-winged Parrotlet (Forpus xanthopterygius)).
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
- cyanophanes (Todd, 1915) - Northern Colombia.
- viridissimus (Lafresnaye, 1848) - Northern Venezuela perhaps into north-eastern Colombia. Also Trinidad, where possibly introduced.
- passerinus (Linnaeus, 1758) - The Guianas, mainly near coast.
- cyanochlorus (Schlegel, 1864) - Roraima, north-western Brazil.
- deliciosus (Ridgway, 1888) - Lower Amazon in Brazil.
