Subspecies
Forms a parapatric species pair with Crimson-bellied Parakeet (Pyrrhura perlata), with which sometimes considered conspecific. Confused taxonomic history and until recently was known as Pyrrhura perlata, but as that name is actually applicable to the form long known as Pyrrhura rhodogaster, it consequently assumes its next oldest name, Pyrrhura lepida.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
lepida (Wagler, 1832) - North-central Brazil, in north-eastern Pará and north-western Maranhío.
anerythra Neumann, 1927 - North-central Brazil, in eastern Pará.
