Grasslands and sparsely timbered country, both inland and coastal dunes.

Habits
In pairs or small flocks.

Food
Seeds of grasses and herbaceous plants, flowers, fruits and occasionally spiders.

Voice
Bursts of extremely, high, thin tinkling, fast then slow, 'tsiwee-tsiwee-tsiweet, tsi-weet, tsi-weet', similar to higher squeaks of a thornbill or fairy-wren.

Nest
In a hollow of a tree or stump.

Eggs (Guide)
4 - 6; white; rounded; about 22 x 19 mm. Incubation: 19 - 20 days; by female.

Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in 4 - 5 weeks.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Similar Species
Elegant Parrot (Neophema elegans)
Similar size. Only the wing edges are blue. Dark blue forehead band narrowly edged pale-blue, extending just past the eye. Face also yellowish. Lacks any yellow behind the eye.

Orange-bellied Parrot (Neophema chrysogaster)
Similar size. Has an orange belly, which is not always visible. Has much less blue on the wings. Mid-blue forehead band stops at the eye. Face yellow-green. Lacks any yellow behind the eye.

Rock Parrot (Neophema petrophila)
Similar size. Only the wing edges are blue. Dark blue forehead band, extending just past the eye. Lacks any yellow in the face. Face bluish-green.
