Nest
An earthen depression in a tunnel or hollow tree or stump, usualy within a few meters of the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
4 - 6; matte, white; spherical.

Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Red-fronted Parakeet (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae).

No subspecies.

Notes
Recently elevated to full species status. Formerly a subspecies of Red-fronted Parakeet (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae), subspecies subflavicens, is extinct and endemic to Lord Howe Island (see EPBC Act List of Threatened Fauna) and subspecies erythrotis, is extinct and endemic to Macquarie Island (see EPBC Act List of Threatened Fauna).
