Rare. Endangered.

Nest
An earthen depression in a tunnel or hollow tree or stump, usualy within a few meters of the ground.

4 - 6; matte, white; spherical.
Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Red-fronted Parakeet (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae ).
No subspecies.
Notes
Recently elevated to full species status. Formerly a subspecies of Red-fronted Parakeet (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae ), subspecies subflavicens , is extinct and endemic to Lord Howe Island (see EPBC Act List of Threatened Fauna ) and subspecies erythrotis , is extinct and endemic to Macquarie Island (see EPBC Act List of Threatened Fauna ).
