Habitat
Lowland forest, forest edge and nearby cultivation, ultrabasic forest, bamboo scrublands, mangrove and in natural grassland with scattered trees. From sea-level - 300 m.

Palawan and associated islands (south-western Philippines).

Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Forest destruction through illegal logging and mining is the main threat.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Montane Racquet-tail (Prioniturus montanus), Mindanao Racquet-tail (Prioniturus waterstradti) and debatably Sulu Racquet-tail (Prioniturus verticalis). Previously treated as a subspecies of Blue-crowned Racquet-tail (Prioniturus discurus).

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Blue-naped Parrot (Tanygnathus lucionensis) which is larger, lacks racquets and has a red bill.
