Geelvink Islands of Biak-Supiori and Numfor off Papua, Indonesia.

Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Degradation of habit by logging and conversion to farmland are the main threats.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Yellow-capped Pygmy-parrot (Micropsitta keiensis) and Buff-faced Pygmy-parrot (Micropsitta pusio).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- geelvinkiana (Schlegel, 1871) - Numfor I, Geelvink Bay.
- misoriensis (Salvadori, 1876) - Biak I, Geelvink Bay.
