Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Blue-capped Kingfisher (Actenoides hombroni) and Rufous-collared Kingfisher (Actenoides concretus), and all sometimes regarded as conspecific.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- lindsayi (Vigors, 1831) - Luzon, Marinduque and Catanduanes (northern Philippines).
- moseleyi Steere, 1890 - Panay and Negros (central Philippines).
