Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, swamp forest. From sea-level - 700 m.
Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, Venezuela.
Eastern Colombia (Vichada, Meta), southern and eastern Venezuela (south of R Orinoco), the Guianas and northern Brazil (south to lower reaches of R Madeira and R Tapajós).

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Rufous-tailed Jacamar (Galbula ruficauda ), Coppery-chested Jacamar (Galbula pastazae ), White-chinned Jacamar (Galbula tombacea ) and Bluish-fronted Jacamar (Galbula cyanescens ). Thought to have hybridized with Bronzy Jacamar (Galbula leucogastra ) in Surinam.
