Subspecies
Pogoniulus bilineatus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird (Pogoniulus bilineatus) and White-chested Tinkerbird (Pogoniulus makawai) following Benson and Irwin (1965), although White-chested Tinkerbird (Pogoniulus makawai) is considered an aberrant form of Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird (Pogoniulus bilineatus) by Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993) and Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993). This is as a precaution pending resolution of its taxonomy.
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Differs from Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird (Pogoniulus bilineatus) by lacking white stripe above eye and having a white, not grey breast. Considered an aberrant form of Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird (Pogoniulus bilineatus).
