Voice
Muffled, whinnying, hollow frog-like whistle 'pyorrrrrr' uttered by both sexes. Also a series of popping notes 'ko ko ko...', 'pup pup pup...' or 'tokaratok tokaratok '.

Subspecies
Megalaima oorti (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Black-browed Barbet (Psilopogon oorti), Chinese Barbet (Psilopogon faber) and Taiwan Barbet (Psilopogon nuchalis) following Collar (2006).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Black-browed Barbet (Psilopogon oorti).

No subspecies.
