Subspecies
Centrocercus urophasianus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Sage Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) and Gunnison Grouse (Centrocercus minimus) following AOU (1998).
Considered by some authors as conspecific with Sage Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Allopatric Sage Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) is much (30%) larger.
