Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Blue-throated Piping-guan (Pipile cumanensis) and Red-throated Piping-guan (Pipile cujubi). All are often treated as conspecific. Black-fronted Piping-guan (Pipile jacutinga) also sometimes included in the superspecies, or even in expanded species, making genus Pipile monospecific.
