Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- sordidus (Gould, 1842) - Aru Is, and northern and north-eastern coasts of Australia.
- pilbara (Johnstone, RE, 1983) - North-western Australia from R De Grey west to Exmouth Gulf.
- colcloughi (Mathews, 1916) - Central Queensland coast to north-eastern New South Wales.
