First Described (Guide)
Sharpe, 1894

Range (Guide)
Extreme south-western Colombia, and Andes of Ecuador. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Virginia Rail (Rallus limicola).

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

  • aequatorialis Sharpe, 1894   -  Extreme south-western Colombia, and Andes of Ecuador. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Virginia Rail (Rallus limicola).
  • meyerdeschauenseei Fjeldså, 1990   -  Coastal Peru.
