Eastern, central and southern Kenya south to north-eastern and eastern Tanzania. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Abyssinian White-eye (Zosterops abyssinicus).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
flavilateralis Reichenow, 1892 - Eastern, central and southern Kenya south to north-eastern and eastern Tanzania. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Abyssinian White-eye (Zosterops abyssinicus).
jubaensis Erlanger, 1901 - Southern Ethiopia, northern Kenya (south to Kulal) and southern Somalia. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Abyssinian White-eye (Zosterops abyssinicus).
