Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Common Blackbird (Turdus merula).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- sowerbyi Deignan, 1951 - Central China (Gansu south to western Sichuan). Non-breeding southern China and northern Indochina.
- mandarinus Bonaparte, 1850 - Eastern China (eastern from eastern Sichuan and Guizhou). Non-breeding southern China, Hainan and northern Indochina.
